Hurricane Relief

Prayer hands

Bishop Miller has asked us to share this message:  Our hearts and prayers go out to the people affected by Hurricane Harvey.  It’s almost impossible to imagine the hardships being faced by victims and emergency responders.  It’s common to hear unaffected people ask the question, “What can we do to help?”  The #1 answer to that question is really quite simple.  Send money.

Right now money will do more to help relief efforts than any material goods.  Money can be directed by relief agencies and used to address areas of greatest need immediately.  So how do we donate?

There are a number of legitimate relief agencies to which you can make donations.  You may already be a supporter of a particular agency.  If you’ve worked with them in the past you may want to contact them again.  If you’re looking for an agency you should consider the U.S. Disaster Program which is part of Episcopal Relief and Development.  This Episcopal program has a proven track record being on the front lines helping disaster victims in need.  Another well-known agency is the American Red Cross.

Please consider giving.  Your donations do make a difference in people’s lives.

Happy face

It was with much gratitude that Canterbury Elementary School in Greendale accepted your donations of backpacks, various school supplies and gift cards to pass along to students in need for the upcoming school year. So, those of us on the outreach committee wish to thank you for your generosity. To paraphrase the psalmist,

‘(You have) put your trust in the Lord and (did) good…and He shall give you your heart’s desire.’

God bless you.

Calling All Acolytes

Acolytes

As we begin our fall service schedule, it is time to gather those who are interested in serving at the Sunday service, review the roles and responsibilities of the acolyte and set up regular serving schedules.

Father Mark and Deacon Marge have prepared an Acolyte Manual and it is available on the counter in the office for all who are interested in this ministry.

On Sunday, September 17th after the 10:00 service, we will have a practice session.  It is mandatory.

Acolyte means an attendant and … his/her job is to assist the celebrant and deacon and enhance the worship service to help glorify God.”  (from the Acolyte Manual)

Prayerfully consider if you want to make a commitment to the acolyte program and let Father Mark or Deacon Marge know if you are planning on attending the meeting.  Peace.
