Hope House—October Focus
Hope House offers hope to women (and their children) who have been abandoned by their spouses. Hope House first provides accommodations and meals (communal, everyone helps) for immediate needs. Followed by job and life skills training, and clothing. Hope House is always in need of the sort of clothing worn for job interviews and office settings. And eventually help the women in finding a place to live;
Whatever is needed to get their clients back into the
mainstream. The women at Hope House face daunting problems most of us can’t imagine.
Please be generous in every way possible.
JUNE 2017 HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE
Prince of Peace ELCA and Adoration ELCA are coordinating a Holy Land Pilgrimage in June of 2017. The total cost is $3935, and this includes airfare, lodging, tour bus and guide, breakfasts and dinners (buffet style), and 9 full days in the Holy Land. (It’s a day and a half for roundtrip travel of course.) This Israel Pilgrimage will be over June 17-27, 2017, and all who are able to come along are welcome and invited to join us! We will visit the sites associated with our Lord and Savior Jesus, and we will visit some sites associated with his Apostles, his Mother, and his early Church. For more information (trip itinerary, registration, and so forth) please call 414-345-7368. Shalom! Pastor Andrew Nyren and Pastor Tim Singleton
On October 9th, following the 10 o’clock service, we will be holding a celebration of the marriage of Fr Mark and Sandra during coffee hour. Please plan on attending to wish them joy!
Our Vestry Clerk, Angie Bier, has had to step down from the post due to other commitments. We have been unable to find anyone to take her place. The post only requires taking the minutes at Vestry meetings using the provided template, sending the minutes out promptly after the meeting, maintaining of a Task List, and the occasional signature on forms or documents. The current temporary Clerk estimates she only spends an hour a month on the job outside of the Vestry Meetings. If you can’t commit to the meeting every month, we would entertain the idea of splitting the position between two people. Please contact a member of Vestry or Fr Mark if you can help, or can suggest someone you think would be able to help.
In January, the congregation passed the budget with a deficit of $16,900. It was stated the deficit would still need to be raised by Special Asking of the congregation. In August, we received two generous contributions totaling $7,446.49. That brings the total raised by Special Asking to $12,196.49. That is a lot of money and gives us much to celebrate. However, we are still $4,703.51 short of what we need for the remainder of the year. Please prayerfully consider what you can contribute toward this shortfall. Mark any contributions as “special asking.”
SUNDAY SCHOOL ASSISTANCE REQUEST
Have you ever thought you couldn’t make a difference in the life of a child? Well you can and right here at St. Thomas. We are in need of Sunday School teachers. Currently Lisa Chmieliwski, and Donna and Tori Celsor are our only teachers. This is not enough to cover our age groups every Sunday. We are planning to move Sunday School to 10am in one class for all ages. We need at least 2-3 teachers per Sunday to prevent burnout. We would like new teachers to commit to one Sunday per month. We can provide all materials and/or training until you are comfortable with the kids.
Please see Donna or Lisa for more information.
Watch your mail this week for a letter from our Senior Warden, Paul Stoving, about Consecration Sunday!
