Hope house—SEPTEMBER Focus
Hope House offers hope to women (and their children) who have been abandoned by their spouses. Hope House first provides accommodations and meals (communal, everyone helps) for immediate needs. Followed by job and life skills training, and clothing. Hope House is always in need of the sort of clothing worn for job interviews and office settings. And eventually help the women in finding a place to live;
Whatever is needed to get their clients back into the
mainstream. The women at Hope House face daunting problems most of us can’t imagine.
Please be generous in every way possible.
Altar Guild Adventure 2017 – Open to All
The date is set for our Washington D.C. Altar Guild adventure: September 18 – 22, 2017. A definite agenda to send out should be ready on or about September 1. All registrations and payments will be open until Nov. 1 or until we reach our cut off of 50 people.
If you wish to register for this Altar Guild Adventure trip but do not have access to the internet, see Veronica Heaney after a Sunday service.
Wedding Celebration –
On October 9th, following the 10 o’clock service, we will be holding a celebration of the marriage of Fr Mark and Sandra during coffee hour. Please plan on attending to wish them joy!
It has come to light that certain lipsticks are being worn that leave marks on the altar linens used to wipe the Chalice when taking wine and we are unable to get the stains out. Please blot your lips well before Communion or please wear a less permanent type of lipstick on Sunday. Thank you!
Our Vestry Clerk, Angie Bier, has had to step down from the post due to other commitments. We have been unable to find anyone to take her place. The post only requires taking the minutes at Vestry meetings using the provided template, sending the minutes out promptly after the meeting, maintaining of a Task List, and the occasional signature on forms or documents. The current temporary Clerk estimates she only spends an hour a month on the job outside of the Vestry Meetings. If you can’t commit to the meeting every month, we would entertain the idea of splitting the position between two people. Please contact a member of Vestry or Fr Mark if you can help
In January, the congregation passed the budget with a deficit of $16,900. It was stated the deficit would still need to be raised by Special Asking of the congregation. In August, we received two generous contributions totaling $7,446.49. That brings the total raised by Special Asking to $12,196.49. That is a lot of money and gives us much to celebrate. However, we are still $4,703.51 short of what we need for the remainder of the year. Please prayerfully consider what you can contribute toward this shortfall. Mark any contributions as “special asking.”
NARTHEX UPDATE MEETING
The Narthex will be getting a much needed update to allow us to use it for coffee hour. This will include a fresh coat of paint. A planning meeting for the proposed updates will be held on Wednesday Sept 28th at 6PM. Please attend if you are willing to help or want to learn more. The painting itself will be done at the end of October. More details will be shared after the planning meeting. Contact Margaret Done, Kris Reed, or Gayle Radavich for more information.
